Counters are fun to play with and can be used for early math. Playing with counters develops children’s fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Let children use the counters for math activities like basic math calculations, patterning and counting. For example, show children 5>3 by putting 5 counters in one group and 3 counters in another. Make a pattern, e.g. 3 yellow, 2 red, 3 yellow, 1 red and ask the children what colour comes next. Let them motivate their answer. These counters can also be used in games like Dumboard.
