Chess is more than a game. It is a fun way to develop critical and logical thinking, creativity, spatial awareness, social skills, memory, problem-solving, planning skills, and fine motor skills. This Deli chessboard comes with magnetic pieces, so they don’t move around on the board. Magnetic chess is ideal if you want to play while travelling. People (of all ages) who struggle with fine motor skills will also find magnetic chess pieces easier to play with than ordinary pieces. This Deli board can be folded in half, making a storage compartment for the pieces.

How to play

• Chess is a two-player game where each player has a colour. The colours are usually black and white, but other colours can also be used. Note that one colour has to be dark and the other light.
• The board is divided into an 8 x 8 checked grid.
• Each player has various different pieces: a king and queen, 2 x bishops, 2 x knights, 2 x rooks and 8 x pawns. Each piece has a starting position and rules for how the piece can move.
• The players take turns moving a piece. Note that the white/light player always has the first move.
• When a piece belonging to one player falls onto the same square as a piece belonging to the other player, the piece that was on the square gets removed from the game.
• The first player to trap the other player’s king (checkmate) is the winner. Note that when a king is in danger of being removed but can move (check), then the king must move. Checkmate is when the king is in danger and can't move. You never really remove the king because the game ends before you can.
