Counters are fun to play with and can be used for early math. Playing with counters develops children’s fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Use the counters for math activities like sorting, basic math calculations, patterning and counting. For example, show children 5>3 by putting 5 counters in one group and 3 counters in another. Let children extend, copy or make a colour pattern. Children can also use the counters to create pictures. The counters are transparent and can therefore be used with a lightbox or for colour mixing.
