With pipe cleaners (also called chenille stems), your creative possibilities are endless. Pipe cleaners can be bent and shaped to make flowers, animals, people, leaves, bracelets, or whatever you can think of. After you’ve bent pipe cleaners, you can straighten them and reuse them for something else. Children can paste pipe cleaners onto pictures to make a frame or get a 3D effect. Pipe cleaners can be cut so children have the right lengths for their art projects. One can combine pipe cleaners with other items to make 3D objects, e.g., use cardboard to make an insect’s body and add pipe cleaners as the legs. With construction activities, children can use pipe cleaners instead of rope to tie objects together. Working with pipe cleaners develops children’s hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, creativity, concentration, colour recognition, and hand muscles.
