Includes:  The fraction tile set includes 51 transparent, coloured pieces in a plastic tray.

The 51pc fraction tile set provides children the opportunity to obtain a visual understanding of equal parts, fractions, and equivalent fractions. For example, children can see that two quarters (i.e. two 1/4 pieces) are together the same size (or equal) as one half (i.e. 1/2). It is also easy to see that 1/8 is smaller than 1/6, even though the number 6 is smaller than 8.

The different fractions are in nine distinct colours with the fractions clearly marked on each tile. The 51 tiles define the following fractions: 1 whole (1 pc),  1/2 (2 pcs),  1/3 (3 pcs),  1/4 (4 pcs),  1/5 (5 pcs),  1/6 (6 pcs),  1/8 (8 pcs),  1/10 (10 pcs),  1/12 (12 pcs).

Equivalent fractions can be compared by putting the tiles side by side in the plastic tray, or on top of each other. For example, put two same sized tiles (say, two 1/6 pieces) next to each other and the equivalent tile(s) (say, a 1/3 tile) on top of these tiles.

Another idea is to put the tiles in the plastic tray and place a ruler vertically on top of the pieces. Put the ruler, for example, vertically on the tiles in the tray, say on the right side of the first 1/4 tile. Then it is easy to see that two 1/8 tiles are the same as a 1/4 tile. Also, comparing the fractions in the tray, it is easy to see that 1/3 is more (or larger) than 1/4, and that 1/5 is less (or smaller) than 1/4. Fraction sizes can also easily be compared by taking one tile of each colour and ordering these tiles below each other from the smallest tile (e.g. the 1/12 tile) to the largest tile (e.g. the whole number one).
