Hands-on and visual understanding of addition and multiplication using the Math Balance

This balance scale uses weights that can be placed all along the lever. There are 2x10 holes to hang the weights onto the lever on each side of the scale. The balance scale is an effective tool to learn and explore numbers, weight, balance and basic math calculation. For example, by placing weights at slots 2 and 5 on the left side of the scale and another weight at slot 7 on the right side of the scale you can concretely see that 2+5=7. In the same way, you can see that 2+5<9 by placing a weight at slot 9 instead of slot 7. Basic algebra can also be taught using the scale, e.g. x+2=7 can be shown by placing a weight at slot 2 on the left side of the scale and a weight at slot 7 on the right side of the scale, then asking where a 3rd weight should be placed so the left is equal to the right.
